Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

In the stand mixer, or using a handheld mixer, beat the butter until it is smooth and creamy.  It usually takes a few minutes to get there.

Add in the salt and the confectioner’s sugar in several additions and mix until combined.

Then, add in the vanilla and 2 tablespoons of milk and mix well. If you prefer a thinner consistency go ahead and add in the remaining milk.

Beat for 2-3 minutes to get it light and fluffy.

Here is a simple buttercream frosting. You can use gel coloring to add color.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1–1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 6 cups (680 grams) confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk
