This copycat Wendy’s frosty recipe is so delicious it will leave all wendy’s fans confused about whether you made a copycat frosty recipe or if you’ve secretly snuck out the back door to snag some frosty treats!
In the past, I’ve always just poured chocolate syrup on top of ice cream and milk and called it a day, but seriously, this homemade version of the original frosty is about 5,000 times better than my lame chocolate milkshake attempt!
Before we get started, here’s a fun fact: Wendy’s frosty is one of the original, iconic menu items.
It is made to be a cross between soft-serve ice cream and a chocolate shake.
Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s, wanted the frosty to be made to be so thick that you can’t drink it with a straw.
What can you add to a frosty?
This seems like a trick question because I want to add. all. the. things. But, here are some ideas that you can add to a homemade frosty to change things up when you make them next time.
- Brownie bites or these double chocolate brownie cookies
- Sprinkles or chocolate chips
- Crumbled chocolate chip cookies
- Swap out the milk for Kaluha
- Swirl in some caramel sauce
- Lots and lots of whipped cream on top (Don’t want to make homemade whipped cream? Just use whipped topping or cool whip from the store for a quick option!)
- Swap out vanilla ice cream for chocolate ice cream or maybe even another flavor…. chocolate mint?

How to Make Wendy’s Frosty Recipe
Method 1
In a blender, combine the chocolate mix, milk, condensed milk, and vanilla.
Pour into an ice cube tray and freeze until fully frozen.
When the ice is fully solid, you can transfer the ice cubes to plastic bags or an airtight container for when you are ready to make the homemade frosty.
When you are ready to enjoy your frosty, blend the chocolate milk cubes, heavy cream, and vanilla ice cream until you get a thick and smooth frosty consistency.
Pour into 3-4 glasses and enjoy!
Method 2
In a blender, add all of the ingredients and blend together until thick and creamy.
Pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container and freeze for about 5-6 hours.
Be sure to stir about every hour to avoid an overgrowth of ice crystals and uneven freezing.
Pour the frosty mixture into 3-4 glasses and enjoy!
If you want your desired consistency to have more of an icy texture and less creaminess, you can reduce or even remove the ice cream and add more ice.
