This apple crisp recipe has the perfect combination of brown sugar and cinnamon that you tend to expect in an apple crisp.
However, there is a special ingredient that I haven’t had in an apple crisp recipe previously.
This recipe calls for a tablespoon of lemon, allowing it to have a subtle tartness, and give the perfect combination of flavors. It’s sooo good!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR QUICK & EASY APPLE CRISP RECIPE
Preheat your oven to 375. Spray your 8×8 pan with cooking spray and set aside.
First, you will prepare the apples.
Prepping the apples is the most time-consuming part of this recipe. I am slow at cutting things so it took me about 20-30 minutes.
You can use a vegetable peeler and peel the outside before cutting the apple, but I prefer to peel and cut with a knife.
I cut the apple into four pieces, carved out the seeds and stems, and then carefully cut the apple skin off.
You will want to cut the apple into thin slices so that they will soften as they bake.
Place apples in a large bowl and set them aside.
Next, we will create the topping. Measure out all topping ingredients (except for the butter) and combine into a medium bowl.
Cut the butter into small chunks and add it to the topping ingredients.
Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the mixture.
You want to break down the butter so that it resembles a coarse texture, making sure there aren’t any large clumps of butter remaining.
However, do not remove all of the clumps.
The textured appearance will make the apple crisp top look so good! Place the bowl in the fridge while moving on to the next step.
Now, we are going to move on to make the sauce to cover the apples.
Go ahead and melt 3 tablespoons butter in a medium bowl.
Add flour and whisk together until well incorporated.
Add in the rest of the sauce ingredients. Mix together until well combined.
Pour the sauce mixture over the apples, using a large spoon or your hands, and stir up the apples so that the sauce mixture evenly covers all of the apples.
Pour apples into the prepared baking dish, spreading it into an even layer.
Go ahead and get the topping mixture out of the fridge.
Pour it onto the top of the apples, being sure to spread out the topping evenly and cover all the apples.
Place in the oven and bake for about 35 minutes.
Use a toothpick to pierce a few apples to make sure that the apples are soft.
The top of the crust will have a golden brown color.
I could see the sauce bubbling on the side of the dish when I was taking it out.
Allow the apple crisp to sit for about ten minutes.
It will allow the juices to soak in a bit more and firm up slightly. Serve warm with ice cream and do a little happy dance! (It’s sooo goood!!)

I made this recipe as it was, but I found it a bit sweet. I would cut back on the sugar and it would be perfect to my taste. Maybe my apples were a little sweeter (off our tree).
